HOW REFORESTATION
PROGRAMS WORK

The population of Amhara has been steadily growing over the past one hundred years, creating an increasing need for land for living space, farming and grazing.

As a result, millions of acres of forest throughout the region have been cut down and not re-seeded.

The destruction of forests and the resulting ecological imbalances have widespread implications for Amhara, including a shortage of wood for fuel and construction, extinction of flora and fauna, heavy soil erosion, recurrent droughts and severely reduced water resources.

Through our reforestation program, you can help ORDA work in partnership with the communities to rebuild the forest resources of Amhara.

As with our water, agricultural and other programs, our goal is to reduce poverty, ensure food security at the household level and protect the environment for future generations.
