We consider water our primary and most important area of development. But because poverty and drought in Amhara are the result of several inter-related problems, it takes dedicating resources to all these areas to bring about long-term change.
The areas we focus on are:
Water for Consumption and Irrigation
The first step in sustainable development in Amhara is making sure people have all the water they need, along with a well-managed, well-maintained infrastructure.
Agricultural Development and
Environmental Protection
To help achieve food security for Amharans, we implement soil and water conservation, crop production and protection, livestock development and non-farm related income-generating activities.
Forest Resource Development
Aforestation is another step to reducing poverty, ensuring food security at the household level and protecting the environment.
Disaster Prevention and Food Security
We use a range of intervention options to assure vulnerable populations have enough food, while at the same time helping them move toward food self-sufficiency.
Gender Equity and Women’s Empowerment
ORDA helps generate opportunities for women empowerment and gender equity, provides education and works to eliminate harmful traditional practices (HTP).
HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention
We educate people in Amhara about how HIV/AIDS is spread, generate preventative measures to reduce the spread of the disease and alleviate the stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS.
